When she learns of her fiancé’s infidelity minutes before their wedding, Melanie Turner snatches Daddy’s shotgun and climbs a billboard on the farm neighboring the church. As family and friends plead with her, she grows more determined. She’s not coming down until that sorry Stephen climbs up and apologizes. No way, no how. Problem is, Stephen’s not coming, which leaves permanently suspended ex-pro baseball player Kyle Casey in a real bind. His grandfather left him in charge of the farm, and he’s struggling with the responsibility, especially with a stubborn cow named Gertie. Seriously? A stubborn cow AND a stubborn girl? Kyle doesn’t need the publicity Melanie’s melodrama is sure to bring. But... helping Melanie is the right thing to do, and Kyle sure needs to start doing the right thing. While the hours turn into days, Kyle sits with Melanie on the cramped billboard deck, enjoying her company far more than he should. As they both come to understand and regret their former selfishness, can this washed-up pro athlete and spoiled-rotten tomboy find a path to peace and renewal?

When Melanie Turner learns of her fiancé’s infidelity minutes before her wedding, she charges out of the church seeking a place where she can lick her wounds in private. The place she chooses? The platform below the billboard on the neighboring property. She has to climb a tree then a ladder – in her wedding dress with her Daddy’s shotgun – to get there but once there, she refuses to come down until her fiancé comes up the ladder and apologizes. When he refuses, she determines to stay there 13 days or until he apologizes – whichever comes first. Look up “stubborn” in the dictionary and Melanie’s picture is likely there.
Melanie’s presence on his Pa’s property brings publicity that Kyle Casey doesn’t need. Banned from his professional baseball career for betting on baseball, Kyle is licking wounds of his own when Melanie’s actions shine a light on his hideaway. Can he talk her down before the national press learns of his connection to the property?
As Kyle learns to know Melanie he sees a woman with knowledge and gifts he needs on the farm, and in his life. He has many regrets about his past but one of the biggest ones is the way he treated his former fiancée. When Melanie’s semi-famous father asks him to take care of his daughter while she’s on his property, he does what he can – feeding her, clothing her, building her a shelter – and in the doing discovers that serving someone else is a sure way to take your mind off of your own troubles. Can he convince Melanie that he’s a changed man, that he’s worth giving a chance?
This was such a fun book! Every character has so many quirks that it’s hard not to love them. I also loved the minister of the church next door. Sure, he was a strong man of God but he wasn’t above taking advantage of the situation to increase his congregation. When his parking lot got packed with press people watching Melanie, he moved his Wednesday evening service outside and preached to them. He is instrumental in bringing Kyle back to faith and Kyle is instrumental in bringing Melanie along with him.
Romance readers will find much to love in this story. I know I did!

5 Stars! I loved this book about a woman finding out about her cheating husband to be on their wedding day. She leaves the church hurt, confused, and angry. She climbs a billboard and refuses to come down until her groom apologizes. Instead he takes off on their honeymoon alone!
Kyle, a disgraced baseball player, home to take care of his grandpa's farm while he is away, befriends her and takes care of her up there for the 13 days she stays up there. They find love together with many mishaps along the way.
The book kept my interest throughout and forgiveness was a big part of the underlying message of the book, both God's and man's. Highly recommended!
I picked this book because of the interesting premise. I stayed with it because I wanted to see if Melanie would grow up and Kyle would forgive himself for past mistakes. The supporting characters added much fun and strength to the story. This is definitely a Christian romance, with quotes from the Bible that were well-placed in the story. The characters exhibited some real emotions, which I liked. They were sometimes painfully honest with each other and that helped them grow to trust each other.
Right before she says her vows, Melanie Turner sees pictures of her fiance cheating, and she bolts. She runs across the street, climbs the billboard across from the church, and refuses to come down until Stephen apologizes. She vows to stay up there 13 days if he doesn’t, because 13 was supposed to be her lucky number. Now she wonders.

Kyle Casey has really messed up. He’s lost his career in baseball for betting on a game, and he’s hurt countless women with his wild ways. Now his grandfather has asked him to take care of his farm, but Kyle knows little about farming. On top of all his problems, there’s a smart, unruly cow that hates him and a pretty, stubborn woman camped out on the billboard on his grandfather’s property.

The plot here is over-the-top and often ridiculous, but it is entertaining as a romantic comedy. Mistakes included “plum” for “plumb” meaning “exactly,” “lied” for “lay,” and “I want you and I….” The ending was drawn out for much too long, which made it less satisfying. ***Spoiler > They were getting married on the billboard and then all of a sudden “they walked together out of the church doors.” It just whizzed to another location.
Melanie Turner is taking stubborn to a new height when she discovers her fiance’s cheating just minutes before their wedding, Melanie grabs Daddy’s shotgun and climbs a billboard on the farm next to the church. Family and friends plead with her, but she grows more determined. She’s not coming down until Stephen climbs up and apologizes even if it takes 13 days. After all, 13 is her lucky number. He was her 13th boyfriend, he proposed after 13 months, and the wedding is 13 weeks after the proposal. Stephen’s not coming, He went on their honeymoon without her which leaves Kyle Casey in a real bind. His grandfather left him in charge of the farm, and he doesn't know anything about farming. He is also a permanently suspended ex-pro baseball player and doesn’t want the publicity her melodrama’s sure to bring. When the preacher of the church convinces him that helping Melanie is the right thing to do, his mind changes. He takes her food and sits with her on the billboard deck, enjoying her company far more than he should. As they both discover they’ve spent their lives focused too much on self, can they find a path to peace and renewal? This is the first book I have read by this author, but won't be the last.
